The first time I was a best man at a wedding, I was really blue – I didnt have any clue about what I should say at the best man toast! Being the best man for the first time, and having to write a speech, I put it off until a few days before the wedding – and then I was really in trouble. Truth be told, the first time you are writing a wedding speech, it really takes some time!

My first tip is ofcourse pretty obvious – dont put it out to the last second! Start on the wedding speech in good time, that is the only way you can make a fun and moving wedding toast.

At first it can be a really challenging task to write a best man toast – often you have to stand in front of a big crowd at the wedding, and people really expect the best man speech to be moving, funny and ofcourse – for the single bridesmaids – you have to be a bit charming, if you are a bachelor. ;-)

The thing that really helped me with my first wedding speech, was just sitting down and brainstorming all my ideas. The funny facts I knew about the groom, making jokes about the bridesmaids, and in general everything I could think of putting into a speech. There are truly faster ways of writing wedding toasts, but this one really worked for me the first time.

I found a lot of help in guides and examples of toasts, and it has really helped me through the weddings I have been best man to. Making a funny speech also helped me making a good impression on the bridesmaids, which ofcourse is a good thing, when you are a single bachelor.

But for planning the first speech, you dont have to worry much about putting things in order or writing the actual speech. As this stage, you should just focus on brainstorming, and putting as many good topics and special things about the groom and the bride down on paper.
